Current Position and how long
Communications Coordinator, 7 years
Why do you want to be a Minnesota Association of Government Communicators board member?
As government communicators, we are passionate about humanizing the people we work with, we're committed to highlighting the work our respective entities do, and we fixate on ensuring every story is told just the right way, in just the right tone.
But what's too often overlooked by those on the outside looking in is just how strapped we are for both time and resources. We are consistently being asked to do more, with less.
Having served on the MAGC board and Northern Lights Committee over the last handful of years, one of our top priorities has been to find ways to equip our membership with the tools and knowledge to ensure effective, yet efficient, communication, and to make darn sure that when that goal is met, you are receiving the recognition you deserve.
We all know this work is never-ending, but it's my sincere hope to continue playing a part in bringing the latest and greatest ideas to our membership, and to continue celebrating the amazing work you all provide, day in, and day out.
What skills, knowledge or expertise do you bring to the board?
As a seasoned communicator dedicated to breaking down barriers and humanizing government, the number one attribute I feel I bring to the board is passion.
The work we do is perhaps more important than ever before, and in a world where keyboard warriors are eager to call out even the smallest inaccuracies and the community Facebook groups are bursting at the seams with gossip, my passion for building trust and engaging with, rather than speaking to, our community is what keeps me going.
Additionally, as the first‚ and still the only, communications employee with the City of Faribault, I feel also provide a unique non-metro perspective to board, and will continue to advocate for us smaller communication departments, making certain we are receiving the support and guidance MAGC provides.
What else would you like us to know about you as a candidate for the MAGC board?
I am married to an incredibly innovative, forward-thinking elementary science teacher who puts my work ethic and patience to shame, and I'm a proud #girldad to two amazing kiddos who make me a better person every day.
