Bold Northern Lights
2017 Northern Lights Awards Reception
We are a group of designers and producers, writers and risk takers, social media experts and storytellers. From an engaging tweet to a comprehensive annual report, we get creative in our efforts to keep things interesting and get important information to residents and stakeholders. We are government communicators. It’s what we do. And this year, the Northern Lights Awards Reception will shine a spotlight on our best and boldest work.
You are invited to attend the 35th annual Northern Lights Awards. This year’s event will provide an opportunity to see award-winning projects from around the state and find out who the 2017 Communicator of the Year will be. Like last year, heavy appetizers will be served and a cash bar will be available.
The keynote speaker for the evening is Michael Howard. Michael serves as the Communications Director for the Minnesota Super Bowl Host committee.
Michael coordinates media relations and public affairs for the Super Bowl Host Committee, working to showcase Minnesota on the world’s largest stage. Prior to joining the Host Committee, he worked as Communications Director for the House DFL Caucus in the Minnesota House of Representatives, where he served for five years as chief spokesperson and communications strategist. He has also served in communications roles for the Minnesota Department of Education, and for Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman.
Michael is a lifelong Minnesotan who loves the bold north. He was elected to the Richfield City Council in 2014, where he serves as the Councilmember At-Large. He is a graduate of Augsburg College and Becker High School.
This year's "Bold Northern Lights" theme is a play on the "We are the Bold North!" tagline used by the Minnesota Super Bowl Host Committee.
